Ever wondered what the .com at the end of a web address stands for?

.com

It stands for "commercial" and is the most recognised suffix at the end of a domain name.

While most websites that use this extension are commercial, pretty much anyone can get a domain name ending in .com

Here are some other common suffixes:

.net stands for "network"
.org stands for "organisation"
.edu stands for "educational"
.biz stands for "business"
.gov stands for "government"
.info stands for "information source"
.name stands for "personal name"
.me is used for "personal websites"
.tv is for "television stations"

Make sure when you are purchasing your domain name that you get the one that suits your business/organisation, especially if your hosting provider is offering you a freebie!
