Does it matter if I have .au at the end of my domain name?

The .au at the end of your website address indicates that your business or organisation is Australian based.

In order to register the particular .com.au suffix, you need to be a registered Australian business and have an ABN (Australian Business Number).

As a business owner you want your customers to know that you are a legitimate business and I believe registering a .au address gives your customers the knowledge that you are located in Australia and are registered in accordance with Australian standards.

Here's a link to the sharpened.net website which lists the suffixes for each country, so if you've ever gone to a website and tried to figure out what country it's in, have a look at this!

As a side thought, if you have a free domain name with your hosting package, check what domain name suffix you have - you could end up with a Bermuda website address!

If you have any queries relating to domain name registration, please email me at enquiries@enchantedweb.com.au
