<br />
1. If you have a merchant account with your bank - contact your bank they can usually get you started. They will provide you with a couple of options to allow you to accept credit card payments and your web developer can hook it up for you. It means that any payments you get go directly into your bank account and you usually have access to a portal that will allow you to see your transactions.<br />
<br />
2. Third Party merchants - these are companies like PayPal. They will accept the payments on your behalf, then you need to transfer your money to your bank account.<br />
<br />
Both options have charges and you'd need to work out what works best for you.<br />
<br />
If you go through your bank - they usually require you to meet certain requirements, eg. have a SSL Certificate, specific terms & conditions, policies on returns etc<br />
<br />
Some Customer may prefer to pay you via a well known Third Party merchant and some may feel wary of purchasing products if they don't know your site.<br />
<br />
If you have any questions regarding credit card payments, please let us know on <a href="mailto:enquiries@enchantedweb.com.au">enquiries@enchantedweb.com.au</a>.<br />

Responsive Web Design (RWD) is the latest buzzword in web circles.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is a term that describes websites that have been designed to meet the various different sizes of browsers and devices that are used today to access websites.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The increasing uptake of smartphones and tablets to access the world wide web and the variety of sizes that these new devices have, not to mention if they are used in portrait or landscape form have made it necessary for websites to be more adaptable.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What RWD does is takes the initial website design concept and allows it to be fluid so that it adapts to the various sizes. Rather than in previous years, where you had to design one site for each browser size and mobile device, now you design one site that adapts! Saves time and effort and in small business, money as well!</div>

So this could be your Customers Name and Email address, mailing details and phone numbers or even any credit card information you may keep.
It's important that you keep this information safe so that your Customers Personal information doesn't get captured and/or used by spammers or scammers.
A SSL certificate will reassure your Customer that you have their best interests at heart.

<br />
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and was developed by Netscape in 1994.<br />
<br />
It is often shown by a padlock appearing in the browser or a https in the URL address.<br />
<br />
SSL is essential for any website business that holds customer information or conducts monetary transactions.<br />
<br />
It is easy for you to get a SSL certificate on your website and provides your potential customers with the comfort of knowing their information is safe with you.<br />

<br />
It usually gives you a map with some red flags on it, these flags usually have letters A, B, C etc etc which correspond to the business name listing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg20LZlEa77sLtU_EJ6DGChww6-yCd5kZm2d7S5IYi53hiZe4rhTP8BKDazI4e41UZx4lVJwIGpsJ0ayygjho_I7F1tawJigXT6bG-XRDZCigze_XxkQsBSrQcaQtHS3-kxmb0IcgAudE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2012-12-19+at+10.57.23+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg20LZlEa77sLtU_EJ6DGChww6-yCd5kZm2d7S5IYi53hiZe4rhTP8BKDazI4e41UZx4lVJwIGpsJ0ayygjho_I7F1tawJigXT6bG-XRDZCigze_XxkQsBSrQcaQtHS3-kxmb0IcgAudE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2012-12-19+at+10.57.23+PM.png" height="166" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
If you have a business and your clientele is mostly local, it's definitely worth setting up a business place (and I would consider a Google+ page as well).<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you are based primarily in Australia then it is important to have website hosting located within Australia, if you're based internationally then consider overseas hosting.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In terms of contacting your website host, say if there is a problem with your service, if it's located overseas - you'll need to figure out the time difference and possibly be delayed simply because they are in a time zone different to you. We had a similar scenario - being located in Sydney and hosting in Western Australia.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You'll also find that hosting services will need to have some downtime in order to upgrade their servers or do maintenance etc....most of the time this will be in the "after hours" time of the local area - so your website might not appear to your customers when you most need it to.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Another reason to consider localised hosting is that Google (or other search engines) may determine your location based on your hosting address - so if you're hosting is located in Australia you're more likely to show up in search results in Australia than say the USA.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Just a couple of reasons I've found it's better to have hosting located on servers that are close to where you do business!</div>

<br />
The sponsored links are there because businesses or companies have paid money via Google Adwords to be placed there. Depending on the keyword or phrase you've searched for, what keyword they've paid for and how much, different results may show up. The sponsored links are located at the top and right hand side of the search results screen and are usually contained in a light yellow box with a "sponsored links" heading above them.<br />
<br />
Organic search results are the links provided in the middle. They are ranked based on Google's search algorithm and are sometimes deemed more credible than the "sponsored links".<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
As a website designer, with a love of making things look beautiful, I was a bit miffed with this statement however as a logical person, I can see his point. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Obviously Google (and other search engines) have robots (or computer programs) that run through your website and depending on the algorithm they use, churn out the results based on a mathematical basis - this has nothing to do with the design aspect of your site.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I believe that it's great to have your site appear up high on the search engine results - how else are customers that don't know about you going to find you? BUT what happens when your customers get to your site - if your site doesn't look professional or they can't find the information they need then they are going to bounce right off your page and head on down to the next website!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You as the website owner must consider this when designing and developing your website. Are your customers new or existing? Do you advertise in other forms - ie. is the only way your customers find you by searching in search engines or do they already know your business name?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The best solution is to satisfy both needs as best you can, with the budget you have - so make sure your website designer includes the basic techniques to satisfy the robots AND designs your site so that your Customers can find the information they want on a professional looking website.</div>

<br />
If this is the case - you are a "guest author" so to speak, and you would need to prepare an article for that person, in the respect that your experience and skills makes you an expert on that particular topic. <br />
<br />
The person you are writing for would need to setup a login for you to access their blog, you would write an article and using their particular blogging software or process would need to submit the article to their blog - I'm assuming that you would either email it for them to post and publish on your behalf or you would submit it to them for publishing on the blogsite. <br />
<br />
There are various different blogging programs, and you would need to check with the particular person on how they would like you to proceed. They should send you instructions on how to create, edit and publish your posts.<br />

I recently read an article on the BBC news about the online retailer Kogan.com who has introduced <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18440979" target="_blank">the first "tax" on people that use Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) browser</a>. As a website designer I can completely relate.<br />
<br />
You'd think that there would be some standards or guidelines that would ensure that whatever you design works the same way in any internet browser, unfortunately for us web designers this isn't the case, each internet browser treats code a little bit differently.<br />
<br />
As a designer we have to take into consideration the internet browsers people use to view "our" websites, often designing for 3 or 4 different browsers to ensure that each viewer is getting the same or similar experience, as well as designing for different screen resolutions and sizes ie. desktop, laptop, tablets and smartphones.<br />
<br />
Just as a matter of interest, here are the browser usage statistics as at May 2012, according to <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp" target="_blank">W3Schools</a>.<br />

<br />
You can use a blog for personal purposes, such as a family photo album with comments or holiday journal or for commercial purposes, to advertise your products or services.
<br />
<br />
If you want to blog, the first thing you'll need to do is set up a blogsite.
<br />
<br />
There is a small benefit to having a separate blogsite to your website, in that you can use the blogsite to drive traffic to your website, which can go to improving your results when people search for you on Google or Bing.
<br />
<br />
Depending on which software you choose depends on how you go through the process of creating, editing and publishing posts or articles.
<br />
<br />
There are several free blog hosts with templates setup for easy use. Try Blogger or Wordpress as a starting point and see how you go.
<br />
<br />
When you've set up your blogsite, you need to post articles to it.
<br />
<br />
An article is usually a few paragraphs long and can include images or links to other articles or websites.
<br />
<br />
Be prepared to write articles at least once a week to ensure regular visitors to your site and to keep your blog current and active.

A blog is an online journal, a digital diary of sorts. It can be personal or business related and can be in many different formats such as written, pictorial or video. Usually you prepare articles and "post" them to your blogsite. <br />
<br />
For business purposes, a blog can be used to showcase the author's experience and qualifications in a particular area or field of knowledge. It can also be used to provide information on a particular topic from various sources. If the blog is product related, you might have articles discussing the benefits of each product and ask your viewers to comment on them. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br />
One of the purposes of a blog is to engage the digital community and have them discuss your ideas, services or products and refer your posts on to friends or colleagues that share the same interests. It serves as a way of getting your name, your business name and website out into the world wide web and highlighting your authority and knowledge of a particular matter. <br />
<br />
A lot of blogsites have "guest authors" that will write a specific article on a topic that is relevant to the blogsite them and digital community subscribed to that blogsite. <br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In order to register the particular .com.au suffix, you need to be a registered Australian business and have an ABN (Australian Business Number).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As a business owner you want your customers to know that you are a legitimate business and I believe registering a .au address gives your customers the knowledge that you are located in Australia and are registered in accordance with Australian standards.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here's a link to the <a href="http://www.sharpened.net/resources/internet/domain_suffixes" target="_blank">sharpened.net website</a> which lists the suffixes for each country, so if you've ever gone to a website and tried to figure out what country it's in, have a look at this!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As a side thought, if you have a free domain name with your hosting package, check what domain name suffix you have - you could end up with a Bermuda website address!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
It stands for "commercial" and is the most recognised suffix at the end of a domain name.<br />
<br />
While most websites that use this extension are commercial, pretty much anyone can get a domain name ending in .com<br />
<br />
Here are some other common suffixes:<br />
<br />
.net stands for "network"<br />
.org stands for "organisation"<br />
.edu stands for "educational"<br />
.biz stands for "business"<br />
.gov stands for "government"<br />
.info stands for "information source"<br />
.name stands for "personal name"<br />
.me is used for "personal websites"<br />
.tv is for "television stations"<br />
<br />
Make sure when you are purchasing your domain name that you get the one that suits your business/organisation, especially if your hosting provider is offering you a freebie!<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
This article "<a href="http://www.netregistry.com.au/blog/top-tips/would-your-website-benefit-from-a-blog?RefCode=nr_tbl_dec11&grc=ENC-47">Would your website benefit from a blog</a>" by Verity Meagher posted on the Netregistry blog may help you decide.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make sure you schedule regular time to add articles to your blog, link it up with your Facebook and Twitter accounts and if your blog is hosted separately to your website, then make sure you put a feed on your website.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I would start your blog by answering your most frequently asked questions, one question per blog post and don't forget you can schedule your posts so they can appear whenever you like. </div>

<br />
Personally, I am a bit of a stickler for things like spelling, grammar and punctuation. I believe it adds a level of professionalism to your website, not to mention making your customers feel comfortable with the quality of your work.<br />
<br />
What do you think? Is proofreading important to you? Do you see spelling mistakes and typo's as a reflection of quality?<br />
