HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language.
It is the first language of the World Wide Web.
Web browsers (internet explorer, firefox etc) read the HTML documents and display them as web pages.
HTML pages contain markup tags to describe the pages. The browser doesn't display the tags, but uses them to interpret the content of the page.
HTML is constantly undergoing revision by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) and HTML5 was recently released.
You can go to the W3Schools to learn more about HTML.
