How do I get a Domain Name?

In order to get a Domain Name (web address) you need to go to an approved Domain Name registrar.

The majority of the registrars will provide you with an option to type in your proposed web address to see if it is available.

If the address is available, the registrar will give you the option to purchase the domain name and usually provides packages for a minimum of 2 years.

If you want a .com.au address, you will need to ensure that you have your Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ANC) handy as you must be an official representative of that business or company in order to register the domain name.

Once you have requested the Domain Name, the registrar will go through the process of registering your request with the .auDA. Usually, this takes between 24-48 hours depending on when you lodge the request and if you have followed correct procedure.
