What's web hosting?

Web hosting is a service provided to store web files and applications. Similar to that of your computer where you store your documents and applications, web hosts provide storage for websites.

Web hosts organise the security and maintenance of their servers, providing space, stopping unauthorised people editing your files and ensuring that your websites are available for your customers to view online.

There are a variety of web hosting options. You can get quite cheap hosting, but you may be limited as to how many files and/or what type of applications you can use. If you use an international web hosting provider, make sure that they have servers in your country. You don't want them doing maintenance on their servers right in the middle of your peak operating hours. It also helps to ensure that their service line is local so that you can contact them during your business hours and not at 2am!
