Some that you may have heard of are:- Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, Camino and Netscape Navigator.
When designing a website, designers and developers have to take into consideration how your design will look on different browsers.
"What?" I hear you ask, "Aren't all browsers the same?" - unfortunately they aren't, although they are trying to develop standards that look the same on all browsers and they are getting close!
In the meantime your designer has to allow for any discrepancies between them, so please remember to check your website design on as many browsers that you can!
